Marathon, Half & Relay Course Information E-mail

The Minneapolis Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay have beautiful courses that travel along the Mississippi River starting in downtown Minneapolis.  We want to give you enough detail to make sure you know the most you can about the race before you get to the start line.  Please keep in mind this information could be updated at any time and you should check back frequently.  See the 2010 race day video here.

Start times for the Marathon, Relay and Half Marathon: 6:30 a.m.

Minneapolis Marathon Course Information

  • Start time: 6:30 a.m.
  • The Minneapolis Marathon is a USAT Certified Course and Boston Qualifier
  • Race Starts at The Depot in Minneapolis
  • Chip Timing
  • At 11:00am Runners will be transferred from West River Road to the paved paths on the sides of street. West River Road will open for cars at this time.
  • Mile Markers will be along all of the courses at each mile.
  • No strollers or dogs allowed
  • There is a 6-hour time limit.  See the time-limit rules.
  • 20 water stops.

Second (or southern) Half of Marathon Course (after Half Turnaround)

Minneapolis Half Marathon Course information

  • Start Time: 6:30 a.m.
  • The Turn around for the Half after mile 9 at W. River Parkway and East 33rd St.
  • Race Starts at The Depot in Minneapolis
  • Chip Timing
  • Half Marathon Course will be open for 3 hours and 30 minutes. This time starts when the last person crosses the start line.
  • No strollers or dogs allowed
  • Mile Markers will be along all of the courses at each mile.
  • Half Marathon is Walker Friendly.

Minneapolis Marathon Relay Course Information

  • Choose your relay team: 2, 3, or 4 participants!
  • Must do the handoffs at official exchange areas.
  • Relay Distances: 1st. Leg: 5.2 miles, 2nd Leg 6.6 miles, 3rd Leg 8.5 miles, 4th Leg 5.9 miles
  • Start time: 6:30 a.m.
  • Race Starts at The Depot in Minneapolis

The Start Line

The start line for the Minneapolis Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay is located on 2nd Street South near The Depot Minneapolis. Click here for an aerial view of the start.
 

The Finish Line

After you cross the finish line, where your time is automatically recorded, proceed through the finisher’s chute. Volunteers will present you with your 2011 Finisher Medal. After you finish, you will be directed to the refreshment and bag check areas. The Marathon and the Half Marathon will have a common finish. Click her for an aerial view of the finish line. Not Finishing

If you are unable to finish the race, please stop at the nearest aid station or intersection with a Course Marshal Volunteer for assistance and direction. Transportation will be available to the finish line.
