Months after the deadly earthquake in Haiti, orthopaedic experts with connections to Team Ortho Foundation, have been volunteering at the Healing Hands for Haiti clinic, their mission is to literally get patients back on their feet, a service even more desperately needed since the earthquake.
Al Ingersoll (pictured left), a Certified Prosthetist from Minnesota and his wife, just embarked on a year-long mission with this organization to get the injured -- including the estimated 4,000 new amputees -- the services they need.. At a recent Team Ortho Foundation volunteer thank-you party, Team Ortho announced it's $3,200 donation to Healing hands for Haiti. Al said he was very grateful for the donation. He explained that six of the organization's seven buildings were destroyed in the earthquake and the seventh building was seriously damaged. They hope to have a new building up in the next six months. For now they're in a temporary location.
Al spoke for a few minutes during the volunteer party about his experience in Haiti since the earthquake, besides the physical trauma, there's the "psycho-social troubles...it's hard to get [the Haitians] back into their routines. They don't want to go into their buildings."
Another connection Team Ortho has is Dan Fitzpatrick. He has been in Haiti helping people with orthopaedic needs. He stopped for a quick moment to thank Team Ortho Foundation for all it has contributed to Healing Hands for Haiti, by showing off his Team Ortho socks in a quick photo opp!
Team Ortho raised most of the $3200 from a Facebook Fan page incentive in March. We donated $2.00 to Healing Hands for Haiti for every person who joined our fan page
