This week’s Ambassador Award goes to Sue Tambornino! Sue has been a loyal and dedicated volunteer for Team Ortho since October of 2009. We asked Sue a few questions about why she enjoys volunteering and are excited to share her enthusiasm with you.
TO: What is the most satisfying part of volunteering?
ST: Working with so many different people to make an event successful and see how the participants appreciate your hard work. I think when a person comes up to me and thanks me for my hard work that is the most satisfying part of volunteering.
TO: How did you first become active in Team Ortho events?
ST: In September 2009 I won an entry into the Mpls Duathlon so I decided I wanted to give back to Team Ortho so I volunteered for the Monster Dash
and had a great time. I knew then that I wanted to get more involved so I signed up for the next event and have been volunteering ever since.
TO: What is it about Team Ortho that makes you want to volunteer your time to our foundation?
ST: I feel that the Team Ortho staff has had a huge impact on the volunteers. The professionalism of the staff makes volunteering successful. Everyone that I have spoken to and volunteered with are all funloving but also committed to Team Ortho and it just makes for a successful combination. I know that I can have a good time working beside other volunteers that want to be there and have a good time while they get stuff done. Who would have thought counting socks in a hot warehouse could be fun but it was!
TO: Do you have any recommendation on how to recruit people to have an active lifestyle?
ST: This question really personally spoke to me. I believe that best way to recruit people to be active is to lead by example. I have two kids that see me workout every day- it might be yoga, weight training, biking or running but I do something every day and my attitude is so much better after I have gotten some exercise. When I have neglected working out my kids or husband will say "you need to go exercise you are crabby". I also think through volunteering and just being active I am also recruiting people to be active. Every chance I get I tell people about Team Ortho and how get an organization it is.
As a thank you to Sue, we will reward her with a Team Ortho fleece.
