Congratulations to Chris Schultz who was named this week’s Team Ortho Foundation Ambassador. Chris has been involved with Team Ortho Foundation since 2008 and has been actively recruiting peers and cohorts to get involved by staying active and volunteering. As a thank you to Chris, we will be giving him a Team Ortho fleece.
TO: What is the most satisfying part of volunteering?
CS: To me, volunteering is that inner will to do good by supporting a great cause. It’s that true satisfaction of being able to step away from the daily grind and showing yourself and others that there is so much more to life. Volunteering for Team Ortho's running events is such an easy and great way to show support for others.
TO: How did you first become active in Team Ortho events?
CS: I ran my first marathon in 2002...and was immediately hooked by everything about running a big race. The collective spirit, the support from peers and fans and man, the fans! I hadn't felt that rush of support and positive energy since high school sports and it was then that I realized that without the support of volunteers and non-profit motivated organizations, this world would be a much different place.
TO: Do you have any recommendation on how to recruit people to have an active lifestyle?
CS: I have a ways to go in understanding how to best recruit people but what I would say it starts with having...positive energy, a clear message, goals and objectives. Running is such a big part of so many people's lives and Team Ortho has found the right formula to promote its running events. John has done an incredible job of gathering young and old adults for a common purpose. The purpose of getting out and running for the betterment of oneself and for noteworthy cause. My non-profit organization, Active Kids Association of Sport, AKASPORT, understands the values of instilling running and healthy events into kids’ lives. Our goal is to get more running programs for kids of all abilities, genders, demographics; the whole works. All kids deserve the same healthy programs and running is a great source of healthy programming.
TO: What are you looking forward to most about the Minneapolis Marathon?
CS: I'm looking forward to that collective spirit! (It) should be a great day for a great race and I sense that this year's Minneapolis Marathon will be a celebration of major proportions. Best of luck to all participants, fans, volunteers, and Team Ortho organizers; well done everybody!
