"Running is a great sport..cycling is a great sport..why not marry the two and place it in the heart of a beautiful city," John Larson, Executive Director of Team Ortho said. But you don't have to be a running or cycling pro to compete. "You don't have to buy a tri-bike for this event," Caleb Olsen, Director of Operations and Training Director for Team Ortho explained. "We hope you can compete with the bike that's in your garage." The organization will put cyclists into different categories, depending on the style of bike used: road, mountain, commuter, or single speed. "There will be awards for each bike category," Olsen said.
Everyone who signs up, receives a Minneapolis Duathlon bike jersey (pictured above) in the mail, plus a bento box for your bike (at packet pick-up) and a beautiful stained-glass finisher's medal when the race is complete! How great is that?
The race is a 5K run, 18 mile bike and 5K run. The running portions take you from downtown Minneapolis, across the Mississippi River, onto Nicollet Island, and back to downtown. The bike travels down West River Parkway and back. You can see the course by going to our maps on our Course Information page. West River Parkway will be shut down for the race.
2-Person or 3-Person Duathlon Relays
We also have a great option for teams of people to do the Minneapolis Duathlon as a relay! Two people or three people can team up together and "do" the Du together!
The two -person relay can divide up their legs however they want (one person can do both runs or one run and the bike, the other team member does the remaining leg) and for a three-person relay team, each person takes leg. What's even more cool is that everyone in the relay gets the bike jersey, bento box and a stained-glass finisher's medal.
Open 5K
This is a running-only event. Participants in this also receive the bike jersey, bento box and stained-glass finisher's medal.
If your preference is biking only, check out our Individual Bike Time Trial.
